Private Fishing Adventures
On
Managed Private Waters
In
addition to our hunting activities, Skattergun Flats offers fishing and
fly-fishing on managed private water, as well as Fly-fishing classes and
seminars on the areas we have groomed to this purpose. Being located in
the bottomlands bordering the Trinity River, we are lucky to have sand and
gravel pits on our land. This water is fertile making for healthy fish,
and it's clearness makes catching fish relatively easy. We have Black
Bass, Crappie, Goggle-eyes, and Hybrid Bluegill in good numbers on the areas we
manage. We also border a large stretch of the Trinity River, and so we can
offer bow-fishing for large Buffalo and extremely large Alligator and
Spotted Gar. These fish are not managed and are not regulated by Texas
Parks and Wildlife. The size of some of these fish has to be seen to be
believed!

As a fishing guide since 1988 on Lake Fork and Lake
Richland Chambers, Dan Lynch
has learned that what most clients want in a fishing trip is to simply learn how
to catch fish. Dan is best known for his use of a Fly Rod to catch "Trophy
Bass" on Lake Fork! As shown to the right, Dan is a teacher and loves to
give tips to a newcomer to the art of fly fishing. Dan has done several
seminars in the past and is available for private instruction. He had the honor
of taking his teaching to the next level by being the only Fly fisherman
teaching at the B.A.S.S. Bass Fishing Clinic in Arlington a few years ago.
Our endeavor here at Skattergun Flats is not only for you to catch the fish you
want, but also to learn something from the experience.
Three years ago, we began managing
the
waters on our private preserve to produce quality fish for the
fisherman. Last year, our
work paid off when
Dan caught a State Record Crappie on a fly rod in one
of our gravel pit areas. The main tank,
that we call the "Brood" Tank or the L-shaped tank in
reference to it's shape, is stocked with Florida strain
Large-Mouthed Bass, Hybrid Bluegill, Large Goggle-eyes, and Crappie. We
manage this area by removing excess fish and keeping the system healthy.
We have several gravel pit tanks with crystal clear water that are stocked with
these fish. We also have several stock tanks stocked
with these fish, but most prefer to fish the clear water of the gravel pits.
It's not uncommon to literally wear yourself out catching fish on these tanks!
Our lakes are specially designed for the Fly fisherman, and we will always be
there to teach, give tips, or answer any questions you may have. That is
our mission in this endeavor!
