As seen in the picture to the left,
we also offer clay shooting from the tower's shooting platform or from our
adjacent Skeet and Trap course for before a hunt practice
with your gun or as a general get-together activity. As of now we have one low house and
a challenging high house, thrown from the top of the tower, to test your shooting skills.
In addition, we have 3 automatic throwers positioned on out combination
skeet/trap range. Cookouts and campouts can also be planned around a clay
shoot from the tower area. A cookout is always part of the released bird tower
shoot package, but will be available upon request for general clay shoots and
hunts.
The tower is also positioned to allow something that most Upland Bird Preserves don't offer. We have the tower near a large, wooded pond that is perfect for released mallard hunting in flooded timber. We will have the option of throwing Mallards from the tower to simulate "Arkansas Style" or small water duck hunting. The Mallards are strong flyers and can be pass shot or decoyed! We have a blind set up with decoys set out to simulate a wild bird hunt. This will be a great way to enjoy duck hunting or to give that retriever the experience it needs! There will be no minimum number of shooters for this event. Rules for the Pheasant Tower Shoot: -Each shoot consists of a minimum of 16 and a maximum of 32 shooters, with a total of 10 birds per shooter thrown. -The shooting stations are individually positioned and numbered from 1 to 16, 75 to 120 yards from the tower. The stations are set 360 degrees around the tower, where obstacles such as trees and brush will make for interesting shots. -The 16 stations are occupied by 1 or 2 shooters, depending on the number of shooters present. -Each station is strategically positioned to allow for overhead shots only. -Some stations may be considered somewhat blind spots, and may be limited for line of sight acquisition for some of the released bird's flight. -The birds are released from the tower in groups of 1 to 3, totaling 10 birds in each flight. The shooters rotate 2 stations after each flight of 10 birds, allowing each shooter equal shooting time. -4 stations have cold drinks and water available. -Once the shoot is completed, a meal may be attended by each of the shooters. -All of the downed birds are collected and will be distributed between the shooters equally. Each shooter may clean his own birds, have the birds cleaned, or choose to take prepackaged, frozen birds instead. The cost is $4 per bird if you have them cleaned by us or if you choose prepackaged birds. -Trash receptacles are on hand for trash and spent hulls!
